Food, Farms, Breakfast and Brews ♥ Dixon, California
Being new to the Northern Bay Area I’ve been enjoying the exploration of the region. This is my favorite part about moving to a different town or city, you get to discover adventure, and find fun things to do with family and friends who visit ♥ I have been especially surprised by towns and roads I use to drive past en route to the City, or Napa, or some other better-know destination. But as usual, I figured out there is always a treasure or two in every new place. A lovely hike, a great cup of coffee, delicious dining, cute shops, and beautiful backroads. Dixon has surprisingly been one of these places. Once bypassed, it seemed I had been missing some lovely must-dos!
Where is Dixon?
Northwest of Sacramento and setting in Northern Solano County is a quaint little city with charm. They are known for their farms, almond trees, and sunflowers that line the roads, and look spectacular when in bloom. Although recognized as a city this is a place with a small-town feel. It has some great eateries, cute shops , and a really cool brewery.
Good Eats of Dixon
Breakfast Anyone? Try Rosemary’s Farm to Fork
I don’t know about you but I love a nice breakfast on the weekends. And I especially love finding a good place to meet friends, and enjoy coffee, conversation, and delicious bites ♥ This place hit all those best spots! I ordered their avocado toast and a pancake on the side. Making sure I tried the best of it I added the mixed berries and fresh cream to my pancake. It was just the right amount of warmth and sweetness. Their pancakes and waffles are made from almond flour which is fitting with all the almond orchards in Dixon, and it sure made for a lovely pancake! To check out their menu and operation info see HERE.
Good Ole Burger Stand
Frosty’s, is a deliciously satisfying burger stand, located at 171 W A St, in Dixon. You order at a walk-up window where the sounds of cooking and machines humming are heard. I wouldn’t say the staff was overly friendly but you can tell that they do aim to please. This is a take-out and outdoor dining establishment only. There is nothing fancy about this joint, but the food is made-to-order-deliciousness, and the classic burger stand charm is worth the visit!
I ordered their $8 single cheddar cheeseburger and it had a perfectly balanced amount of toppings and meat. It was a yummy crispy texture with gooey cheese in every bite! In addition to burgers, they have many flavors of shakes, and perfectly crispy onion rings, with various sauce choices to choose from. I picked the ranch and was pleasantly surprised that it had a nice touch of dill in the mix. No complaints!
Local Hops
Ruhstaller Farm
With their tagline being respect, explore and hug your mother– you know you are in for a treat ♥
Located on Sievers Road in the heart of Dixon is a 40-acre farm that is a family-friendly hop brewery and open-air taproom. It’s an organic, farm-to-table, horticulture heaven in a tap!
This is a beautiful farm with a bohemian feel, eclectic rustic style, and attractive architecture. With many events, live music, food trucks, and free-roaming chickens that rule the joint, you gotta go! It is truly a fun and enjoyable environment, with a variety of fruity, complex, and deliciously-tasting beers and wines. You will have great fun taste-testing the hops they have on tap.
I do suggest bringing a blanket if you mind setting on dust and dirt. The building is an open-air facility with the elements of farm life on the couches and chairs, and the cutest chickens hop up on the tables and roam freely. You will see flies, gnats, and at times mosquitos, so bring that natural bug deterrent if you wish. But don’t let this stop you from checking Ruhstaller Farm out! It truly is a cool vibe and experience, and again, it is family-friendly so you will see kids and dogs enjoying the place as well ♥
