Lagoon Valley Park (Pena Adobe) – Vacaville, California

This beautiful Park is lovely with access to numerous trails that range from easy to hard. The trails wander through the park itself, or up various paths into the hills. This park has lakes, numerous large grassy areas, disc golf, barbecue pits, lots of picnic locations, and clean restroom facilities located in the main park areas. Oh, and dogs are 100% welcome. Lagoon Valley Park even has a gated dog park!

Hours, Parking and Fees

They are open from 7 am until sunset with ample parking (although beware, I did see a windshield broken and the owner of the vehicle said someone busted it while he was hiking.) I have been to Pena Adobe nearly a dozen times and have had no issue, but as with any public place, I have a firm rule having learned my lesson years ago, DO NOT leave personal items like bags, purses, or anything of value, out and visible. Unfortunately, there are always those kinds of people. Parking is subject to a fee and must be paid at a kiosk or by downloading the Park Mobile App. The daily parking fee is $5, which is a great option, or you can buy a 6-month parking pass for $25, which is more cost-effective if you plan to visit Pena Adobe frequently.

The Sweet Spot – Lagoon Valley Loop/Eagle Trail

I have walked various inclined moderate and hard trails at this park, but what I LOVE about this place is it has various easier trails to enjoy as well. This post I will focus on the wonderful 3.3-mile Lagoon Lake Loop via Eagle Trail, that is easy to access and enjoy. It is a relaxing walk that circles the beautiful Lake which is lovely to walk anytime of year but when it is springtime everything is alive with vibrant colors and sounds. Be sure to bring a pair of binoculars because there are so many beautiful birds and fowl to see. Also, cows grazing, and deer frolicking the hillsides of Pena Adobe. I love early morning walks here. The chorus of chirping-birdsongs is heavenly ♥ I absolutely love arriving when the park first opens, because all the critters are so alive in the morning, and the sights and sounds have nearly brought me to happy tears. If you arrive early there is parking available nearest the bridge crossing into Eagle Trail too!

What I pack

It’s a fairly relaxing and easy trail but do make sure you wear sunblock, bring a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and depending on weather you might want layers or a hat for shade in the warmer months. If you want more ideas on preparing a lightweight backpack feel free to check out my tips for a hikers go-pack HERE.

To picnic or not to picnic?

This park is another great place to bring a packed lunch or snacks. Plenty of places to sprawl a blanket out, or a table to sit at, and even use the BBQ pits. But as I have shared before in my Avery’s Pond post, I love a brunch stop before or after a lovely hike ♥ My go-to establishment after visiting Lagoon Valley is CUBA Café which is an approximate 6-minute drive from this park. It’s a little joint with some savory Cuban food and authentic Cuban coffee (YUM.) They also serve up some darn good French toast.

My favorite dish here, is the Pollo con Frijoles & Arroz (chef’s kiss) I also get their Guava & Cheese pastry to go with my cup of coffee of course!

Final thoughts

If you are looking for a beautiful and easy trail, that has plenty of close parking, and clean restrooms, then be sure to check this place out and trail the Lagoon. It is another favorite of my Perfectly Practical Trails I believe you would enjoy! Cheers to your hiking adventures my friends ♥
